AS Roma heading to Stadio Olimpico with a 1-0 on aggregate after beating AC MIlan in the first leg of the Europa League’s quarter final. Gianluca Mancini’s goal inside 20 minutes at San Siro stood until the final whistle was blown at San Siro. 

Both teams have just met once in European competition. For Roma, Milan are one of the two sides they have faced alongside Fiorentina back in 2015. The second leg match will conclude the first series of meeting between the two Italian giants in Europa League.   

Europa League could be the alternative goal for both Roma and Milan who are struggling to keep up with Internazionale in the Serie A title race. AC Milan are European royalty with their seven Champions League titles, but never win the Europa League or previously known as UEFA Cup. 

Milan’s best milestone in the competition was reaching the semi final twice, in 1972 and 2002. Roma on the other hand, reached the final twice in 1991 and 2023. Last year, they lost to the most successful team in the competition Sevilla in a penalty shootout.

Roma would be without Bryan Cristante in the second leg due to card suspension. The 26-year old midfielder was booked in the first leg after fouling Ruben Loftus-Cheek on Milan’s counter attack. Giallorossi will also have to wait for the Iranian forward Sardar Azmoun, who is expected to return mid April.

AC Milan

Milan have not any addition in either injury or suspension. The existing injured players,  Tommaso Pobega and Pierre Kalulu are still estimated out until the end of April. However, some Rossoneri players are threatened by suspensions as the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Yunus Musah, and Malick Thiaw have collected four yellows throughout the competition.
