“Just keep winning” – Roy Keane’s demand from Erik Ten Hag

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane made his expectations clear after Manchester United’s narrow victory against Fulham.

The new Premier League season started at Old Trafford with the hosts Manchester United claiming all three points with a 1-0 win over The Cottagers in the dying minutes of the game on Friday.

In the early parts of the game, the Red Devils were sluggish, but could have taken the lead before half, with two Bruno Fernandes strikes denied. As the game was nearing the end, debutant Joshua Zirkzee capitalized on Alejandro Garnacho’s cross to make his mark and cap off the game in style.

Even though the match is not something meant for the history book, the result was a great relief for Erik Ten Hag, whose job has been on hot water since last season’s eighth-place finish and despite earning an extension. The Dutchman faced widespread criticism, including Keane being one of the strong critics vocal about the squad’s shortcomings.

In the Sky Sports post-match interview Ten Hag had a humorous exchange with Keane after host Kelly Cates pointed out Keane’s silence, “I am just listening. There is a vibe going on I am just chilling out.” Keane responded.

“You don’t want to spoil the vibe?” Ten Hag asked, “Not tonight,” the former captain replied.

“Next week, I know that,” the United manager remarked. “I’ll be waiting. Just keep winning, it’s so simple,” the 53-year-old added, with a grin.

The United faithful have had their fair share of experience with Keane’s dry wit, however, they will be fully aware that the positive atmosphere will continue at Old Trafford only if the Red Devils keep earning more points.
