Real Betis made it to sign Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham Hotspur last minutes before the transfer window closed. Turns out, the Argentinian was not the only player with Spurs history whom Betis trying to sign. The transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed on his X post that Betis had also approached Christian Eriksen from Manchester United.
Eriksen was known to play for Spurs from 2013 to 2020 before moving to Inter Milan. United came to sign him in the summer of 2022 with a free transfer from Brentford. Legally, the Danish is still in contract with United until next summer.
There was no “here we go” for Eriksen transfer
“Real Betis had approached Man United for Christian Eriksen as last minute target ahead of Deadline Day,” Romano wrote. “No chance for move as there was no agreement on plate and club side, but Betis tried.”
Apart from Betis, Ajax was also reported attempting to re-sign Eriksen, but Romano denied the rumour. “No formal bid was sent by Ajax to Man United for Eriksen, despite several links.”
Last season, Eriksen played 22 league matches, scoring a goal and providing two assists. This season, the former Ajax midfielder came in the second half when United lost to Liverpool with three goals to nil at Old Trafford last week.
Lo Celso is one of the five Betis’ arrivals this season. The Andalusia-based club managed to land the likes of Chadi Riad from Barcelona, Natan from Napoli, and Marc Roca from Lees United. Meanwhile, Vitor Roque came from Barcelona as a loanee.
