Jadon Sancho, Chelsea

Jadon Sancho reveals reason behind joining Chelsea

After having a magical spell at Borussia Dortmund and a rusty career at Manchester United, English winger Jadon Sancho has now joined another EPL giant Chelsea FC. Despite strong rumours of joining other clubs like Juventus, Sancho decided to move to direct domestic rivals Chelsea FC on a loan deal, with an obligation to buy next summer.

The deal surprised many, as Manchester United let their league rivals have another lethal option in attack, and also because Sancho decided to stay in the Premier League after seasons of poor performance. But now, the once sensational winger has revealed the reason for joining the Blues.

The winger idolizes legends Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard.

As per a tweet from Fabrizio Romano, Sancho revealed that he wanted to join Chelsea because they are an “iconic club”. He further revealed the reason for joining, saying that the club legends Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard are his idols. And so, playing for the same club as them is a “great feeling” for him.

Sancho had previously said that he is very excited about the new opportunity, and he is happy to be back in London, the city where he grew up. He also added about his expectations and his conversation with manager Enzo Maresca, saying, “The manager spoke to me about the project and, for a young player, it’s exciting. Hopefully I can bring goals and assists to the Bridge.”

Jadon Malik Sancho was lured in by Manchester United for a hefty fee in 2021, after his impressive stint with Borussia Dortmund. He however failed to impress in the Red Devils squad, playing only 83 games to date, with just 12 goals scored. He was loaned to his ex-club Dortmund earlier this year, and he shined again. Both Chelsea and Jadon Sancho would hope that he plays similar to his Dortmund days.
