It’s a new era for Liverpool F.C. After nine glorious seasons, they are now without the guidance of their former head coach Jurgen Klopp. The Reds entered the summer transfer window 2024 with Arne Slot at the helm of affairs.
Though a new era from a managerial perspective, Liverpool FC had kept the same core of their successful team, with very few but important tasks to fulfill in the transfer window. They entered the new season with priorities already marked and tried their best to work on them, with smart picks and bargain bids like they always do.
The EPL giants had a quiet window, compared to the other top sides, but managed to pull a few stellar in the last moments, after finding no success initially in repairing the minor gaps that appeared in their team.
On that note, let’s have a look at how the 2024 summer transfer window went for Liverpool:
Problems Prior to the transfer window in the Liverpool squad:
- Right-Wing: Liverpool have one of the finest right-wingers in the world, and his name is Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian is their biggest star and has been Klopp’s key man in the attack. There’s no able alternative for Salah, but Liverpool didn’t even have a player who plays in his position naturally.
- Defensive-midfield: With Thiago Alcantara retired, Liverpool have only Wataru Endo as a defensive -midfielder. They made several attempts to fetch a CDM, as per Slot’s requirement.
- Defense: Liverpool hails a fantastic defense. Last season, they faced the third lowest number of goals in the English top flight. But, they did face 41 goals, which cost them the second spot. A little freshness in the defense was needed.
Problems Addressed
- Wings: Liverpool probably made the best bargain deal, when they signed highly talented Italian winger Federico Chiesa for a mere fee of 12 million Euros. He is just 26, and the Reds will expect his prime to continue. He is a perfect pick for the false striker’s responsibility and can also play in place of Mohamed Salah at times.
- Goalkeeping: Liverpool have found a replacement to carry the star goalkeeper Alission’s legacy. At just 23, Giorgi Mamardashvili is another good pick, though he will continue with Valencia for this season.

Problems Now
- Defensive-midfield: Liverpool made several attempts to sign a quality central defensive midfielder. They had several players on their radar, Martin Zubimendi being at the top of their list. But the player rejected their offer and chose to stay at Real Sociedad. Not having a good CDM might haunt them later.
- No fresh additions: Liverpool have a set team, compact and consolidated. But, with Arne Slot into the picture, some fresh players would bring a fierce attitude in the side.
