Nottingham Forest 1-1 Newcastle United: Player Ratings as the magpies head into the next round after penalties

Newcastle United advanced into the next round of the Carabao Cup after defeating Nottingham Forest 3-4 in penalties as both teams we on level terms at the end of regulation time. Joseph Willock got the Magpies off to a great start but had to leave the game in the 15th minute due to an injury. The returning Sandro Tonali almost doubled the lead just after but was somehow saved by Carlos Miguel. Then Forest picked up the pace and were the better team in the game until the second half.

Forest’s efforts in the first half paid off just five minutes into the second half as Jota Silva levelled the score. Newcastle then tried very hard to get a winner but was every time denied by Forest’s goalkeeper. In the penalty shootout, Joelinton blinked the first one as Miguel kept out the midfielder’s effort. Carlos Miguel- 8.2/10: He was the reason why Newcastle United were only contained to just one. He made crucial saves at different junctures of the game. In the penalties, he gave a great performance for his club.

Defenders

Willy Bolly- 7.1/10: Was solid in defence and was reliable in crunch situations of the game.

Andrew Omobamidele- 6.7/10: Had a decent game stopping Alexander Isak and Almiron.

Zach Abbott- 6.5/10: Had a fairly good game preventing the fierce Newcastle attackers but could have performed well in attack.

Midfielders

Eric da Silva Moreira- 7.4/10: Was great in both the halves and always was a threat for the opposition in the right flank.

Elliot Anderson- 6.4/10: Had two shots but both were not on target. Played a decent game.

Nicolas Dominguez- 7.5/10: Was very organised and had a great impact in curating the attacks in the second half.

Alex Moreno- 6.7/10: Had a decent game from the left flank.

Forward

Jota Silva- Brought back Nottingham Forest into the game with a goal. A throw-in from Alex Moreno which was not headed properly and Jota smashed it off the woodwork to draw the team’s level.

Taiwo Awoniyi- 6.3/10: Was pretty much absent in the second half and did not have much of an impact.

Ramon Sosa- 7.0/10: Created most of the chances (3) for Nottingham in the game. Kept Newcastle’s defenders under pressure.

Substitutes

Nikola Milenkovic- 6.3/10: Helped the team maintain the defensive shape.

Ibrahim Sangare- 6.6/10: Had a decent game.

Neco Williams- 5.9/10: The team was demanding from him but was not able to deliver.

Nick Pope- 6.5/10: Had a fair game. Was expected to perform in the shootout but did not have to do much as Forest choked in the final moment.

Daniel Burn- 7.2/10: Was very much successful in keeping the opposition striker silent.

Emil Krafth- 6.7/10: Had a decent game and had completed the most passes (64) in the match.
