Group Standings and Points Table After Round 3 of Copa America 2024

With the conclusion of the group stage games, the Copa America 2024 group standings and points table have found new shapes. The round 3 of the South American Championship came to an end with a 1-1 draw between Brazil and Colombia. The most surprising outcome of this stage is the exit of the tournament hosts USA. They, after giving hope to the millions of Americans for a better ending, fell short against the mighty Uruguayans and bowed out. 

After the Copa America 2024 round of 3 came to an end, the tournament is all set for its quarter-finals, with the top two teams from each group progressing into the next round. From Group A, Argentina and Canada have entered the next round, while the 2015 and 2016 champions Chile have been knocked out from the group stage, the first time since 2004. La Albiceleste continued their perfect run so far in the tournament, with a 2-0 victory over Peru in their last fixture. For Canada, they came second in the tally after holding Chile to a goalless draw. 

In Group B, Venezuela have been the most surprising find in this tournament as they have advanced into the next round as the group toppers with three consecutive victories, with the last two coming in the forms of a 1-0 win over Mexico and a 3-0 thrashing of the Jamaicans. Ecuador have pipped the Mexicans to the second spot in the table, courtesy of a better goal difference. 

Group C has seen some eventful turns of events since day 1. Uruguay, one of the favorites to clinch the Copa America 2024 title, have stormed into the quarter-finals with a thumping 5-0 victory against Bolivia and a 1-0 win over the USA in their final two group contests. The low-ranked Panama defeated the Yanks 2-1 in a thrilling contest earlier, followed by a marvelous 3-1 victory against Bolivia to advance. Bolivia crashed out of the tournament after falling down on three occasions. 

In group D, Brazil finished their Copa America group journey on the second spot following their fighting and controversial 1-1 draw against the table toppers Colombia. Selecao amassed five points with one win and two victories, while Colombia finished as the group leader with seven points. In another contest of the “group of death,” Costa Rica edged past a wasteful Paraguay in a 2-1 victory. But it was not enough for them to progress into the next round.

Argentina and Uruguay have enjoyed an impressive Copa America campaign in this edition so far. Both of these nations have lived up to the unwavering expectations, and have entertained their fans with their formidable displays. In the absence of Lionel Messi, the Inter Milan forward has risen to the occasion time and again with every given chance so far. Uruguay’s Darwin Nunez has also become another star of the campaign through his exploding performances in the group stage. Following a stupendous hat-trick against Mexico in an international friendly ahead of the Copa America 2024, the Liverpool talisman has been riding on a fine run of form, collecting two goals in the process.
