Al Nassr president’s resignation ignites massive fan backlash supporting Cristiano Ronaldo

Saudi Arabian giants, Al Nassr are enduring challenging times currently. The club which kickstarted the Middle East revolution of football in 2023 has become a prey to both on and off-field issues. Al Nassr was recently the subject of a 4-1 humiliation and embarrassment by rivals, Al Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup final. The situation has been made even worse by the resignation of the President, Ibrahim bin Abdullah Al-Muhaidib.

Al-Muhaidib was involved in a conflict and disagreements with the members of the board which ultimately led to his exit. His departure now puts the club’s present in a state of uncertainty. Fans were expecting a busy summer transfer window after a disappointing 2023/24 campaign but so far have only seen Brazilian goalkeeper, Bento arrive. Further signings seem a distant possibility, taking into account the club’s unstable state.

Al Nassr will commence its league season with a home game against Al-Raed. The Riyadh team has fallen off the pace as compared to Al-Hilal, both in terms of trophies and transfer activities. The side’s form and results in the pre-season were also underwhelming, offering little hope for the 2024/25 campaign. Cristiano Ronaldo has consequently once again become a major talking point with questions revolving around his future.

Fans demand Cristiano Ronaldo to reconsider future at Al Nassr

The turbulent scene at Al Nassr has concerned the supporters of Cristiano Ronaldo. The Ronaldo faithful are well aware that his time as a professional footballer is nearing an end and hence hope for a successful last few years. Al Nassr does not provide that comfort and satisfaction to them, leading to a widespread protest on social media.

The Portuguese legend has remarkably failed to lift a collective piece of silverware since the 2020/21 season with Juventus. The recent defeat to Al Hilal in the Super Cup does not show any signs of that streak ending in the coming future. Fans are hopeful that Cristiano Ronaldo will be able to find an ambitious and demanding project to mark a triumphant closure to his career.
