Alvaro Morata chose to stay at Atletico Madrid Even After Approaches From Milan and Other Personalities from Seria A

Alvaro Morata has been a consistent performer at both the club and the country level in recent times. The Atletico Madrid and Spain striker has always stepped up his game when required by his team to prove his doubters/critics wrong. His finishing skills in front of the goal are second to none in the top tier of European football.

The reason behind Alvaro Morata preferring to stay at Atletico Madrid despite Seria A and Milan’s interest

In an interview with Gazzetta, Alvaro Morata revealed the interest he received from the Seria A in Italy. The 31-year-old asserted –

“Milan called me and many coaches because I am on good terms with everyone. Allegri coached me and the same is true of Mourinho (former AS Roma manager) who gave me my Real Madrid debut”.

Morata also insisted upon the fact that he was keen on the idea of signing for AS Roma to be able to play alongside Paulo Dybala. He also underlined that Roma appears to him as a club “filled with passion”.

However, the forward player then embarked upon the reason why he was contempt to stay with Atletico in La Liga. Morata stated –

“There were contractual problems with Italian clubs, but a chat with Simeone (current Atletico Madrid manager) changed everything”.

The Spanish forward further pointed out that the rumours regarding a tiff between him and Diego Simeone are completely false. Morata insisted that the relationship between him and the Atletico Madrid’s manager has only got better with the time.

What’s next for Alvaro Morata?

In 26 matches for Atletico Madrid in the 2023-2024 season of the La Liga so far, Alvaro Morata has scored 14 goals and further registered two assists. He’s been in a decent run of form for the Spanish club lately. In this season’s Champions League, the 31-year-old has performed decently by netting five goals in his eight matches played till now.

Atletico Madrid will next face Villarreal in an all-important upcoming La Liga clash. The match comes across as a significant fixture for Atletico in terms of their Champions League qualification hopes for next season. Morata would be looking to help his team out by continuing his goal-scoring form.
