A Cristiano Ronaldo red card made waves across the footballing world as the legend received a red card in Al Nassr’s loss to Al Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup.
Cristiano Ronaldo Red Card: What happened?
Al Nassr faced Al Hilal in the semifinal of the Saudi Super Cup at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium on Monday night. The game was an end to end enthralling contest. However, a Cristiano Ronaldo red card overshadowed the game as Al Hilal emerged victorious in a closely fought contest and made their way to the final.
The Cristiano Ronaldo red card incident occurred in the 86th minute as the veteran forward was involved in an incident with Al Hilal defender Ali Albulayhi. Al Nassr trailed 2-0 as the ball went out for an Al Nassr throw-in as the defender cleared a through ball. Cristiano Ronaldo quickly rushed to take the throw-in, however, Ali tried to block him from reaching the ball, further enraging an already frustrated Ronaldo. In retaliation, the angered Al Nassr captain elbowed Ali Albulayhi in a gross act of misconduct. What followed was an obvious red card being handed to the 2016 Euro winner.
With his ejection from the game with a red card, fans are now wondering when Cristiano Ronaldo will return for Al Nassr.
When will Ronaldo return from suspension?
The Cristiano Ronaldo red card will see the Portuguese footballing legend miss the next two games in the Saudi Pro League for Al Nassr via suspension. Al Nassr’s captain will miss the club’s tie against Al Feiha at home later this month and also the club’s fixture away from home against Al Khaleej. For manager Luis Castro, the ex-Man United star will now next be available for Al Nassr ahead of their King’s Cup semi-final on 1st May.
His presence for Al Nassr in the King’s Cup will be extremely important as the tournament offers them their last chance to win a trophy this season. The club is currently 12 points behind Al Hilal in the Saudi Pro League and are extremely unlikely to win the league. Meanwhile, the club’s elimination from the Super Cup on Monday night has now left only the King’s Cup as an opportunity for Al Nassr to win silverware this campaign.
