Xavi decides to step down at the end of the season as Villarreal shock the Blaugranas in an eight-goal thriller

The defending Champions, FC Barcelona have been going through a tough run of form this season and to make matters worse, club legend Xavi Hernandez has decided to step down as the head coach by the end of the season after their agonizing 5-3 loss to Villarreal at home.

The Azulgranas are currently fourth in the table, tied with Atletico with 44 points in 21 games, eleven points behind table toppers Girona, and ten points behind their arch-rivals, Real Madrid who also have a game in hand.

Xavi’s men were also knocked out of the Copa del Rey in the quarter-finals by Athletic Club recently and also lost the Spanish Super Cup final 4-1 to Real Madrid a couple of weeks ago. With title hopes almost out of sight, the Blaugranas would look forward to doing well in the Champions League wherein they face Italian side Napoli in the Round of 16 of the competition.

Who’s in the relegation zone after Gameweek 22?

Getafe secured a 2-0 win against struggling Granada in LaLiga, maintaining their position in the top half of the table. Unfortunately, Granada’s tough season continued, with only one win in their last 20 matches since August (5 draws, 14 losses). The club is in a relegation band with Almeria and Cadiz. Almeria ranks at the bottom of the table without a single win.
