Barcelona has now announced the signing of Hansi Flick as the head coach of the men’s team. On his first statement for the club, Flick said that he was happy for the employment at the Camp Nou-based club.
Flick, one of Bayern’s most successful managers, signed a two-year contract with Barcelona. He replaced Xavi Hernandez who was sacked a few days ago after a horrendous season, failing to win any title during the 2023/24 season.
Hansi Flick praised La Masia
Apart from praising Barcelona’s academy, Flick admitted that the club knows what he wants. “I’m proud to be at Barça, it’s a wonderful and incredible club really.” he said via Fabrizio Romano’s X post. “We share the same vision, possession and quality football. Barça has La Masia, one of the best academies in the world; so our mission is to improve all the players”.
Barcelona had an emotional experience with Flick, in particular during the 2019/20 Champions League season. Back then, the German coach was still a Bayern manager, trashing Barcelona 8-2 at Camp Nou.
However, the bitter experience did not stop Barca from signing Flick. On the club’s official statement, it said that Flick was the right person.
“By bringing Hansi Flick as coach, FC Barcelona have chosen a man well known for his teams’ high pressing, intense and daring style of play which has brought him great success at club level and international level, winning pretty much all there is to win in the world of football.”
