Mauricio Pochettino said it’s the first time he felt that with the fans
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino revealed that he felt a ‘connection’ with the fans for the first time during his side’s epic 4-3 win over Manchester United in the Premier League on Thursday. The Blues fought back from 3-2 down in stoppage time as Cole Palmer netted twice late on and completed his hat-trick.
Conor Gallagher put the Blues 1-0 up inside four minutes of the kick off before Palmer doubled their advantage in the 19th minute from the penalty spot. United fought back through quickfire goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes in the first half while Garnacho fired another one after the break to put the Red Devils in front.
As if there wasn’t enough drama already, Palmer popped up with two more goals in the added minutes, including a second penalty, as Chelsea rose from the dead in the closing stages to win a memorable clash. Pochettino was visibly elated upon seeing his side’s fighting spirit, and later revealed that he connected with the fans that night, an experience he hadn’t had before. The Argentine said:
“For the first time, I started to feel a connection with the fans”
Pochettino has endured a tough first year at Chelsea, with his side languishing in 10th place of the league table with only 12 wins and 43 points in the bag, despite not having to contend with European football. The Blues also lost to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup finals, but have reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup, which is their last hope of a silverware this season.
United victory could be a turning point for Chelsea
Chelsea displayed incredible fighting spirit and hunger in their win over Manchester United last night, and this could perhaps be the turning point of their season. Sure, it might too late to compete for the league title, but it may boost their ambitions of securing a place in Europe next season, as well as contend for the FA Cup, where the London side face Manchester City in the semi-finals.
