Van de Beek Reflects on ‘Unforgettable’ Time at Old Trafford
Donny van de Beek has officially announced his departure from Manchester United after a challenging four-year tenure at Old Trafford.
The Dutch midfielder joined United from Ajax in September 2020 for £35 million but struggled to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup.
While there were high hopes for van de Beek he could only make 19 Premier League appearances in his debut season and was frequently sidelined in the years that followed.
Reflecting on his time at United, van de Beek posted a heartfelt message on Instagram:
“Dear Manchester United family, today marks the end of my journey with the club. I want to thank you all for your support throughout the years. From the moment we arrived, we felt extremely welcome, and we are grateful for that. A special thanks to all the fans who made these years unforgettable.”

Van de Beek – New Beginnings in La Liga with Girona
Van de Beek’s quest for regular playing time and a fresh start has led him to Girona in La Liga.
The transfer was initially valued at €500,000 (£423,000) but could rise significantly with add-ons and potentially reach up to €15 million (£12.67m).
This move offers van de Beek a chance to revive his career and showcase the talent that once made him a standout at Ajax.
The 26-year-old’s stint at United saw him loaned to Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt where he faced injuries and struggled to make a significant impact.
Now with Girona van de Beek will have the opportunity to compete in the Champions League as the Spanish club finished third in La Liga last season.
