FC Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong

Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong reveals the Premier League club he wishes to play for

Like the previous two seasons, multiple reports are claiming that FC Barcelona are willing to sell Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong. The possibility of a departure has always been there for the past few seasons, as the Spanish giants are suffering from financial crunches and Frenkie is one the highest-paid players of the side.

As per Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, the Catalans are willing to sign Liverpool and Colombia national team winger Luis Diaz. Knowing Barca’s financial situation, it is being speculated that the club might offer a swap deal with De Jong at stake for the talented forward.

However, Frenkie de Jong has already revealed the Premier League club he wishes to represent. Before his multi-million Dollar move to FC Barcelona, the former Ajax midfielder told in an interaction with Dutch outlet Voetbal International that he wished to play for Arsenal.

He said that he grew up watching the Gunners play, and he liked Marc Overmars and Denis Bergkamp. He also expressed his respect for club legend Arsene Wenger. He added that he wishes to have a career like Marc Overmars, who went from Ajax to Arsenal and eventually to Barcelona. He then further stated that a move directly to FC Barcelona would be the best, as he eventually wishes to be there.

He expressed his love for Barca’s style of play and his admiration for the Cules midfielder, stating that he loved to watch Xavi, Iniesta, and Busquets play. The Dutch also revealed his idol, and it was like most other Cules, Lionel Messi.

De Jong has been one of the best-performing players for FC Barcelona over the past few years, but a move to Arsenal is unlikely as of now. His departure would be a big blow for the Barca midfield, but signing Diaz would solve the club’s problems on the left wing.
