PSG have reportedly decided not to pay Kylian Mbappe his wages for April. The Ligue1 have also held back his bonus that was due in February.
As per a report in Le Equipe, PSG is determined not to allow Mbappe to leave for free this summer. They wanted him to sign a new deal at the start of the season, but he refused.
He has already announced his decision to leave when his contract expires in next month. Real Madrid are waiting to announce him and there are reports in Spain that claim they want to unveil him before EURO 2024 stars.
However, he will still be under contract at PSG, who are now meeting with his lawyers because of the unpaid wages and bonuses. Nasser Al-Khelaifi spoke to LeParisien last summer and claimed that they would not allow Mbappe to leave for free as they had spent over £150 million to sign him from AS Monaco.
He said:
“We want him to stay but he can’t leave for free. It was our oral agreement and he had expressed it publicly in an interview. So it’s not debatable. I was really shocked to learn that he intended to leave for free. It’s very disappointing because Kylian is a fantastic boy, a real gentleman, and leaving for free, weakening the biggest French club, it’s not him. When I received this information, I was shocked and disappointed.”
He added:
“That’s why he has to decide next week, or at most in two weeks. And if he doesn’t want to sign a new contract, the door is open. It’s like that for him and for everyone else. No one is bigger than the club, no player, not even me. It’s very clear. In football standards, you never see your best player leave the club for free. It never happens.”
Despite the unpaid wages and bonuses issue, Mbappe is not expected to sign a new deal at PSG this summer. He is determined to leave France and move to his dream club Real Madrid.
In a video released on his social media accounts, Mbappe said earlier this month:
“Hi everyone, it’s Kylian. I wanted to speak to you. I’ve always said that I would speak with you when the time comes and so I wanted to announce to you all that it’s my last year at Paris Saint-Germain. I will not extend and the adventure will come to an end in a few weeks. I will play my last game at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.”
He added:
“It’s a lot of emotions, many years where I had the chance and the great honour to be a member of the biggest French club, one of the best in the world which allowed me to arrive here, to have my first experience in a club with a lot of pressure, to grow as a player of course, by being alongside some of the best in history, some of the greatest champions, to meet a lot of people, to grow as a man as well with all the glory and the mistakes I’ve made.”
Kylian Mbappe has played 308 matches for PSG since moving from AS Monaco. He scored 256 for the Pairs side and assisted 108 goals.
