Goalkeeper

Nick Pope – 7.5: Very little he could do about the goal as Gvariol placed it well, but overall, he had a decent match. He saved all the decent offers from Manchester City and made no mistake, apart from the one time he passed the ball directly to Gundogan.

Defenders

Kieran Trippier – 7: The right-back was having a tough time handling Jack Grealish but managed to do well overall. He was involved a lot in attacks before he was taken off.

Fabian Schär – 6.5: He was focused on Erling Haaland and never left the Manchester City striker breath easy. The defender was booked after a revenge foul on the City striker but did well to last the whole game.

Dan Burn – 6.5: Helped out Schar in handling Haaland well and did not do a lot of wrongs today. Was playing a risky game but hugging the striker constantly inside the box.

Lewis Hall – 7: Not his best game but cannot fault him for anything as well. He was up and down the pitch constantly and helped out his teammates as and when needed.

Midfielders

Sandro Tonali – 6: Hardly involved in the game today and managed just 12 passes before he went off injured. The Italian played 77 minutes, but the game just went past him like he was not even on the pitch.

Bruno Guimarães – 7.5: The Brazilian showed his intentions from the very start and was ready to challenge for the ball at every chance. He kept going until the very active until the very end of the match.

Joelinton – 7: Not his best game today but still managed to help out in all three departments. He was given a free role and played almost like a third center-back in the second half.

Forwards

Jacob Murphy – 6.5: Played the whole game but never managed to get a shot away. Was isolated a lot in the attack and never managed to threaten the City defense.

Anthony Gordon – 7.5: Won the penalty and converted it to help Newcastle United get a point today. The Magpies missed Isak a lot today, but the Englishman ensured they got something from the game.

Harvey Barnes – 7:  Kept going at the Manchester City goal at every half-chance he got but just could not get on the scoresheet. He was running in behind at but could not help out much in the build-up.

Goalkeeper

Ederson – 7: Gave away the penalty and failed to save it. However, he was brilliant in the first half and was even making backheel passes outside the box.

Defenders

Kyle Walker – 6: His poor positioning helped Gordon stay onside and eventually win the penalty. Moreover, he was lucky not to give away another penalty minutes later with a clumsy foul on Joelinton.

Rúben Dias – 6.5: Picked up a booking late in the game to stop a counter but, overall, had a decent match. Never out of position and was ready to help the midfielders keep the ball.

Manuel Akanji – 6.5: Similar to Akanji but did not make any unnecessary fouls. He played a clean game today and was spot on with his defense today.

Joško Gvardiol – 8: Playing as the left-back today but managed to get into the Newcastle United box like a midfielder and scored. He was exceptional in the match and managed to make things look easy.

Midfielders

Rico Lewis – 6: The youngster was used as a midfielder today and he looked out of position. Never managed to get himself involved as he does while playing as a fullback and was taken off in the 81st minute.

Mateo Kovačić – 7.5: He might never manage to fill in Rodri’s boots but today was his best performance in a long time. He did well in keeping the game flowing but could not get a goal or an assist.

İlkay Gündoğan – 7: Should have scored from the chance he was gifted by Nick Pope but his long-range attempt was straight into the hands of the goalkeeper. Never managed to do much in the 66 minutes on the pitch.

Forwards

Bernardo Silva – 7: Came close to scoring at the very end of the game but overall, he was missing. Hardly got involved in player and was pocketed by Lewis Hall.

Jack Grealish – 8: The Aston Villa version of Grealish was on display today and he was unstoppable. Trippier needed help to control the winger and that too did not spot him from assisting Gvardiol and creating multiple chances.

Erling Haaland – 7: After a stunning start to the season. Haaland finally had an off day. He was just not able to shake off the Newcastle United defenders on him but still managed 5 shots today.
