It is said that Moukoko’s father Joseph was an ex-footballer at the amateur level. This might have rubbed on to his sons as both Youssoufa and his brother Borel turned into professionals. Borel Moukoko was a left-back for Cameroonian club Apejes FC as recently as 2024. It is Youssoufa though who has made all the headlines with his record-breaking growth and goals.

Youssoufa Moukoko’s Girlfriend

Often termed as a down-to-earth and a family man, Moukoko has only been involved in one controversy. According to the German publication Ruhr Nachrichten, Moukoko once locked up his 23-year-old girlfriend when he was 16. The emergency services had to intervene to free her. But despite these claims, a charge was never pressed against Moukoko.

Right now in France, Moukoko has no active Girlfriends. The forward enjoys his off time driving fancy cars, and speed boats. Given that Moukoko shared time at Dortmund with Aubameyang and Ousmane Dembele, it is not hard to imagine where he has picked that habit from. Swimming is said to have been one of his favourite pastimes.

Youssoufa Moukoko’s Club Career Stats

Moukoko arrived in Germany at the age of 10 and was immediately noticed by St Pauli. He was immediately put into the Under 15 side where he scored 23 goals in 13 appearances. This development was quickly noted by Borrusia Dortmund and he was signed by them.

Moukoko was a child prodigy, to say the least. His movement and physical prowess combined with smart finishing meant he always competed with peers way beyond his age at youth levels. He was the only 13-year-old at the Under 17s and he was the only 14-year-old at the Under 19s. These factors never worried Moukoko as he kept on scoring goals like a machine. Moukoko became the youngest player to be fielded and score in the UEFA Youth League at the age of 15.

The senior team were waiting for a chance to play Moukoko at the earliest. As soon as the German federation changed a rule that allowed youngsters to play in 2020, he was in line to make his debut. Moukoko became the youngest player in the history of the Bundesliga when he debuted against Hertha BSC aged 16 years and one day. A similar record-breaking debut followed in the Champions League a week later.

He rewrote the history books again as he became the youngest goal scorer in the league at 16 years and 28 days. Once he started scoring, he did not look back as he kept on adding goals. Moukoko then played as a deputy to Erling Haaland for a few games before an injury ended his season in March 2021.

In the 2022/23 season, he was frequently used as a starting striker and he showed his potential by becoming the first teenager to score 10 goals in the Bundesliga. However, as he was growing physically, niggling injuries appeared here and there. The starting position was no longer his own and was relegated to the bench. The trend continued in the 2023/2024 season. In a bid to regain his minutes and the form he lost, Moukoko was open to a loan move.

Currently at Nice, his loan spell isn’t going as expected. Moukoko is on the bench once more and the goals have dried up. The youngster needs to find the magic in front of the goal to live up to his potential.
