Liverpool vs Accrington Stanley Preview
- Tournament: FA Cup
- Date: 11th January 2025
- Kickoff time: 12:15
- Venue: Anfield
Liverpool take on Accrington Stanley at Anfield this week when the FA Cup third-round matches kick off. The two sides are meeting for the first time ever and the home side are clear favorites to win.
Arne Slot’s side will be hoping to avoid the low set by Jurgen Klopp’s men in 2018/19 when they were knocked out of the tournament in the third round. They lost to Wolverhampton that time and it has been the only time in the last 13 years when they have exited after their first match.
Liverpool were surprised by Manchester United and then beaten by Tottenham in the last one week. They will be looking to avoid going three matches in a row without a win – something that has not happened under Arne Slot since he took over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer.
Accrington Stanley have made it to the third round just four times since 2009. They have progressed to the 4th round on each of those occasions but are facing a massive task this weekend.
However, the other issue for the away side is that they have never beaten a side from the Premier League. They have lost all three matches against the top flight opponents and are now facing the league leaders.
Liverpool Team News
Joe Gomez remains out for Liverpool and is the only player ruled out for Arne Slot. However, they will also be sweating on the fitness of Jarell Quansah after he came off in the 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.
“He didn’t feel well from the moment when the game started to when he came off,” Slot said. “He said he felt pressure on his chest and came off but I have to ask him exactly what it was. He said he didn’t feel well. He was ill in the last few days. We thought he was on his way back but it was nothing to do with an injury.”
Accrington Stanley Team News
Accrington Stanley came to Anfield with a fully fit squad with no injury issues or doubts. They will be going into the game with their strongest XI, while the Reds may rest a few players as they have a few tough matches coming up.

Liverpool vs Accrington Stanley H2H Record
Liverpool have never faced Accrington Stanley but did face the original club back in 1955/56. That meeting was also in the FA Cup third round and the Reds won 2-0.
Key players to watch in Tottenham vs Newcastle United
Darwin Nunez (Liverpool)
Darwin Nunez has a lot to prove and will be raring to use the opportunity this weekend. He has scored just four goals for the club this season and has just three assists to his name.
Reports suggest the Uruguayan forward is under pressure at the club as he has just one goal in his last 11 matches for the Reds. He has been linked with an exit but is keen on staying at the club and proving his worth under Arne Slot.
Tyler Walton (Accrington Stanley)
Tyler Walton has scored in both of Accrington Stanley’s matches in the FA Cup this season and will be looking to make it a hat-trick. He has scored three goals so far, and can create history by becoming the first player to score in the first three matches of the FA Cup for the club.
Walton has scored three goals and assisted as many times in the league this season. However, he also has a disciplinary issue with seven yellow cards in 20 League Two matches – picking up a booking almost every three games.
Liverpool vs Accrington Prediction
Liverpool are in red-hot form and are up against Manchester United, who cannot get anything right at the moment. There is a good chance this game will be one-sided and we have 5+ goals in the game.
Prediction: Liverpool 5-0 Manchester United
