It required more than 90 minutes for Uruguay to secure a winner over Colombia in the World Cup qualifier match at Estadio Centenario. A late-goal from a substitute Manuel Ugarte rescued the home side from an unwanted draw. It was Colombia’s Juan Quintero who scored first in the game and the lead stood until the break.
In the second half, Uruguay started to put more intensity in their attacking which resulted to an own-goal by the former Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez. The goal gave Uruguay a slight hope to even overturn the lead which was materialized when another substitution Rodrigo Aguerre scored a goal to take Uruguay lead for the first time in the game. Even when Andres Gomes put Colombia back on level in the 90+6th minute, it was Ugarte who save the day for the home crowd with his goal five minutes later.
