Man City’s Mega Salary Boost for Key Player
As per The Sun, Man City are set to offer Rodri a big contract extension despite him having three years left on his current deal.
Rodri has been one of the most important players for City in recent years. This can be evidenced by the fact that the Cityzens lost three domestic games in a row when the Spaniard was suspended after a red card earlier this season.
Rodri is unbeaten in more than a year now for both Man City and Spain. Hence, seeing his importance and performance, City is looking to offer him a big salary bump. As per The Sun, he will receive £300,000 per week after he signs the new contract. For comparison, he currently earns £180,000 per week.
Rodri joined Man City from Atletico Madrid in 2019 for a reported fee of €70 million. He has become a key player for the club since, making 247 appearances and also contributing 25 goals and 28 assists.
He has been excellent for them this season as well, having made 40 appearances, scoring eight goals and providing 12 assists.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola labels Rodri as best in his position
Rodri is widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world currently and Man City manager Pep Guardiola has backed this opinion. After their 4-1 win over Aston Villa last week, the Spanish manager said in a post-match press conference:
“Other teams don’t have players like him. Rodri is very good in many aspects. He has presence, physicality… everything. He’s very complete. His signing was incredible for City.”
He added:
“Rodri is the best. In his position, he’s the best. He can do it all. He has the quality to read the game, he has the right mentality, he’s always ready. Rodri is top, top.”
Rodri came through Atletico Madrid’s academy but moved to Villarreal’s youth system in 2013. He made 84 senior appearances for them, scoring two goals and providing six assists before returning to Atletico in 2018.
The Spaniard made 47 appearances for the Rojiblancos before joining Man City the following year. He also won the UEFA Supercup with Atletico. With City, meanwhile, he won the treble last season, having won numerous other trophies so far.
He has helped City be in the hunt for another treble this season. They are just a point behind Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League title race. They will face Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals.
