Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel took his chance and slammed at the late offside call made in the semi-final, causing the elimination for his side.
With Real 2-1 up having come from behind, Joshua Kimmich’s long ball was headed centrally by Thomas Mueller for defender Matthijs de Ligt to score in the 12th minute of added time.
However, the Dutch defender thought he had equalized but the assistant referee’s flag was raised for offside.
The Real defenders had stopped before De Ligt fired the ball into the net and the television replay showed the original decision was not offside, which meant a final word with the Video assistant referee(VAR) would have calmed the storms.
Thomas Tuchel comments on the controversial decision
As VAR had already been played the choice was instant, for which Tuchel Tuchel told in the post-match “it was a very, very bad decision” and “against the rules”.
Thus Real made it through 4-3 on aggregate after the first leg in Munich finished 2-2.
An animated Tuchel was on hot water as he ran down the sideline after the decision, Later, sharing his thoughts with the broadcaster that the decision was “a disaster, an absolute disaster”.
Moreover “The linesman says sorry but that does not help. Raising the flag in such a moment is something that cannot be easily digested.
Referee Szymon Marciniak also apologised but it “does not help” as the final whistle has already been blow, confirmed Tuchel
“Everyone has to go to their limit, everyone has to suffer, everyone has to play without making mistakes. So the referee has to be at that level too,” added Tuchel.
“It just doesn’t help to make excuses after the fact. You are on the field for this reason, because you are the best there is. And we have the right to expect that until the end.”
The 2023/24 UEFA Champions League final at Wembley Stadium will see Real Madrid play Borussia Dortmund on June 1st.
