Atletico Madrid Finalises Paperwork To Announce Robin Le Normand Signing

In another step forward in the developments, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Atletico Madrid is preparing all formal documents to announce Robin Le Normand as the club’s latest signing.

A crucial player for Real Sociedad, Le Normand is now ready for a new challenge under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.

Along with the departure of long-time player Stefan Savic, Atletico had conceded 43 goals in 38 La Liga games last season. This propelled Atletico’s manager to recognise the need to strengthen their defence. The urgency for a new defender increased when Mario Hermoso declined a contract extension and Caglar Soyuncu moved to Fenerbahce after just one season in Madrid.

Le Normand appears to be the ideal candidate to fill this gap, given his consistent performances for Real Sociedad. His transfer involves a deal worth €30 million plus €2 million in add-ons..

Is Robin Le Normand the right choice?

The Spanish centre-back aims to become a regular starter under Diego Simeone by utilizing his defensive skills, including winning aerial duels, accurate passing, and game reading. He is likely to start alongside experienced Uruguayan defender Jose Gimenez, with both players complementing each other’s physical attributes suited for Simeone’s style.

Le Normand prefers playing as the last defender, a role that aligns well with Simeone’s renowned defensive tactics. His aerial prowess and passing accuracy were standout qualities at Real Sociedad, where he was dominant in aerial duels last season. His ability to deliver precise long passes from deep positions can aid Atletico’s playmaking and build-up from the back.

The signing of Le Normand could be a significant boost for Atletico Madrid, especially given their defensive struggles last season. His skills and experience might be the key to strengthening their backline and fitting into Simeone’s defensive strategy.

The Spanish international had a solid campaign with Real Sociedad last season and has played 43 games across all competitions. The performance of the 27-year-old earned him a spot on the Spanish team for Euro 2024. Since joining Real Sociedad from Brest in 2016, Le Normand has played over 300 matches for the club.
