Joselu helped Real Madrid launch a comeback against Bayern Munich.
Carlo Ancelotti On Joselu: Joselu stars in UCL semi-final win against Bayern Munich
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti waxed lyrical about Joselu after the striker’s brace in the UEFA Champions League semi-final comeback win against Bayern Munich. Joselu came on when Bayern were leading 1-0, courtesy of Alphonso Davies’ 68th minute stunner. The Spaniard scored twice in quick succession late in the game (88′, 90+1′) to give his side the upper hand.
Joselu joined Real Madrid on loan in the summer from Segunda division side Espanyol. While he hasn’t been a first-choice starter, the Spaniard delivered when his team needed the most. Ancelotti said after the game (via France RMCF on X):
“Joselu has contributed a lot this season, and he hasn’t played much. He is an example of what this team is: players who contribute without ever losing hope.”
Joselu has scored 16 goals and providing six assists in 46 appearances across competitions. He has scored five goals in 10 UEFA Champions League matches. After the game, he was spotted giving Carlo Ancelotti a warm embrace.
Joselu reacts to helping Real Madrid beat Bayern Munich
Joselu’s story is nothing short of sensational. A La Masia academy product, Joselu only made two appearances in his first stint at the club. He went on to play for clubs across the globe. After Karim Benzema’s departure, Los Blancos needed a striker and surprisingly brought in Joselu on loan instead of the big names.
Joselu has served his team well and the brace against Bayern Munich is perhaps the pinnacle of his career. He said after the match (via Madrid Xtra on X):
“This is better than my dreams.”
Joselu attended the 2022 UCL final in Paris as a Real Madrid fan. He is now set to play the Champions League final in Wembley against Dortmund as a Real Madrid player.
