David Soria’s injury halted the Getafe vs Mallorca match as Mason Greenwood played his final game of the season
The last match-day face-off between Getafe and Mallorca in La Liga was marked by a key incident in the opening stages of the match. Getafe’s goalkeeper David Soria suffered a serious injury scare. The home side’s goalie was spotted lying on the ground after a thunderous clash with an opponent’s player inside the final third.
Soria was then attended by the club’s medical staff and a sheet was also used to cover him. An Ambulance also arrived on the pitch (in case the need arose). The match was stopped for a reported period of about 11-12 minutes. However, lately, the Getafe player was able to stand up on his feet and was substituted. Getafe’s on-loan forward Mason Greenwood who was playing his final game for the Spanish club was spotted observing the incident meticulously.
The Man United loanee played well in the match against Mallorca and looked lively and sharp on the pitch as he has been for almost the majority of the 2023-2024 season. However, Getafe went on to lose their final game of the season by a scoreline of 1-2 against Mallorca. The hosts finished their campaign at the 12th spot in the league table with 43 points to their tally.
Mason Greenwood has impressed in his loan spell at Getafe
Mason Greenwood has been one of the most impressive players from Getafe’s hierarchy in the 2023-2024 season. The Man United loanee hit the ground running at the Spanish club and played the football which he is known for. His on-field presence provided Jose Bordalas’ team the much-needed X-factor in those attacking situations.
In his 33 matches in La Liga for Getafe, Greenwood scored a respectable tally of eight goals and further topped it up with six assists to his name. In the Copa del Rey this season, he managed to net two goals for the club in three appearances. Since joining on loan he started about 85 percent of the matches in La Liga for Getafe.
As per the football transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, amidst the 22-year-old winger returning to his parent club Man United, the English club is pretty much lucid on their plans to sell him this summer. Several reports lately have hinted that the top clubs from Europe like Atletico Madrid and Juventus are linked with a potential transfer move for the England-born player.
