In a much-needed boost for Premier League heavyweights Liverpool, their No.8 Dominik Szoboszlai has returned to Merseyside to begin preparations for the upcoming season.
Liverpool’s pre-season group has increased in number this week, with the Hungarian being the latest to report back after his nation’s early exit from the Euro 2024.
After enjoying a three-week break, Szoboszlai has returned to Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre to start pre-season training under new manager Arne Slot. The positive news is that he has no new injury issues, suggesting he is ready to move past his previous difficulties.
He is now set to undergo initial fitness evaluations, led by Liverpool’s new head physical performance coach, Ruben Peeters.
Szoboszlai experienced a hamstring injury on New Year’s Day and faced another setback in late January, limiting him to just seven Premier League starts in 2024.
Dominik Szoboszlai under pressure to perform
Although the Liverpool midfielder made an impressive start to his Anfield career, during the latter part of the season, his performance dropped notably. According to Sandor Csanyi, president of the Hungary Football Federation, this decline was partly due to Szoboszlai “struggling with a minor injury for a long time.”
Despite being only 23 years old, Szoboszlai is under significant pressure to deliver for Liverpool. Having been acquired for a substantial fee of £60 million, expectations are understandably high. However, it’s crucial to recognize that his youth alone doesn’t ensure consistent peak performance.
As Szoboszlai enters a new season, he has the chance to overcome his injury challenges and demonstrate his value on the field. With his remarkable talent and the backing of his teammates, coaching staff, and fans, there is hope that he can rise to the challenge and realize his potential at Anfield.
