Ahead of the new season, Wolverhampton Wanderers have received disappointing news following a serious knee injury sustained by Enso González.
Last summer, the Premier League club invested approximately €6 million to acquire the Paraguayan winger from Libertad. The transfer took place with the expectation that González would become a future star. However, he featured less prominently than expected in the 2023-24 season. Gonzalez made just one top-flight appearance, which occurred in the final moments of a defeat to Crystal Palace in May. He accumulated a total of 458 minutes with the U-23 team.
The decision on whether González would be loaned out or remain at Molineux was pending, as he was selected for Paraguay’s Olympic squad. However, it’s now clear that the transfer will not occur after the 19-year-old suffered an ACL injury over the weekend.
González, who had been used as a substitute in Paraguay’s opening game against Japan, was named for the match against Israel on Saturday. Within 14 minutes of kickoff, he had to be substituted due to the significant knee injury.

Enso González faces long rehab after injury
Wolves have already confirmed that the playmaker faces an extended period of rehabilitation, putting his availability for the upcoming campaign in doubt.
Phil Hayward, Head of High Performance, stated,
Enso unfortunately sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury to his right knee whilst playing for Paraguay at the Olympics yesterday. As medical staff, we are in close communication with our Paraguayan counterparts to arrange surgery for Enso and begin the rehabilitation process.
This injury adds to the history of Wolves where they deal with prolonged absences due to knee injuries. Sasa Kalajdzic has suffered two such injuries during his time at the club, while Chiquinho missed the entire 2022-23 season before returning to play for Stoke City and Famalicão last season. Pedro Neto too has dealt with several injury problems at Wolves.
