Everton Transfer Analysis and Overview – 2024

Everton Football Club is one of the oldest and proudest teams in English football and was one of the founding members of both the Football League and Premier League. With twenty-four major trophies in their trophy collection including nine English League titles and five FA Cups, the club has been carrying the sigil of a rich footballing history of England.

The Toffees finished in the 15th spot in the 2023/24 English Premier League which forced their hands to offload some of the notable players from their squad in order to vacate space for potential newcomers. However, despite making significant signings in the summer transfer window of the 2024/25 season, their fate has not seen much outward road with a journey of high and low. But, it has not changed the structure of their plan in the transfer market which has been full of some strange buys and sales.Ā  With a long insightful history, Everton Football Club, which is also called ā€œThe Toffees or The People’s Clubā€, has been one of the most successful clubs in the transfer market, in both players, sales, and buys.Ā

Everton Transfers Club Performance History

Everton Football Club have had a graceful journey in the transfer market since the first day of Football League. In the inaugural season of the English Premier League in 1992, the Toffees had a net expenditure of Ā£5.4 million which saw them lure in seven players including the great forward Paul Rideout who came from Rangers. Since then, more than 2000 players have been traded by the Merseyside outfit in the transfer market.

Players like Romelu Lukaku, Mikel Arteta, Peter Reid, and Tim Cahill have been brought into Goodison Park which have influenced the course of history for Everton, demonstrating the club’s successful vision to find great talents in the transfer market. Despite being bound by their financial limitations, the Liverpool-based club have signed high-profile players Jake O’Brien and Iliman Ndiaye in the 2024 summer transfer window. Despite many players failing to impress after coming to the club, it is fair to say that Everton holds an aura of great performance in its transfer strategy so far.

Everton Transfer Strategy and Philosophy

Everton’s transfer strategy has always boasted the club’s ambitions in buying world-class talents from different leagues. However, the recent financial constraints have seen a shift in the club’s approach to the 2024 summer transfer window.

The Premier League club’s priorities have always been finding not-so-popular players in the market and bringing those young talents to the youth academy. Everton’s 20024/25 summer transfer deals have hinted at a possible strategic foresight of the club management that will shape the trajectory of their 2025 January transfer window. The club has always seeked to bolster its youth academy, which has always been a crucial supply line of talents. Now, with Everton shifting their focus to asset management, they are expected to avoid the pitfalls of past lavish spending that led to economic woes.

Everton Transfer 2024 Challenges & Criticisms

The one and only challenge Everton face in 2024 is the club’s financial crunch, owing to their new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock. The estimated cost to build the new facility which is under construction and is expected to be ready by 2025, is around Ā£786 million. As a result, the decision-making process in transfers has been centralised, with the director of football Kevin Delwell at the helm of the process.

Toffees were on a spending spree in recent years, resulting in some devastating failures which have drawn wide-ranging criticism from the fans of the club. The decision making in the 2023-24 transfer market was done by a wider group of people, but this time things have changed as Everton are expected to be in the transfer business influenced by the ideas and inputs of manager Sean Dyche and the head of the recruitment team, Dan Prudy.

Most Expensive Everton Transfers

Everton FC have always been a lavish spender in the transfer market. Most of the club’s big spending have been executed in the last decade after Farhad Moshiri took over the majority stake in 2016. Despite him splashing the cash, the results have remained ineffective. The Premier League club have slowed down their approach of going after players with big price tags recently after performing poorly in the transfer market. But, they still remain one of the major English clubs who have made some expensive transfers over the years. On that note, let’s take a look at the most expensive Everton transfers of all-time.

Everton Transfers All Outgoing 2024/2025

Financial worries have brought a restraining order in Everton’s transfer strategy of late. The Merseyside club have been forced to sell some of the promising players who were pivotal in their journey in the Premier League for the last couple of years. The transfer of Amadou Onana to Aston Villa in 2024 was reportedly a part of the plan to bring in cash to tackle the financial instability at the club. The Toffees earned Ā£47.5 million in their former midfielder’s sale. Along with Onana, seven more players have been offloaded in the 2024/25 summer transfer window.

Top Signings for Everton in 2024-25

Everton Football Club have opted for a cautious approach in the 2024/25 transfer market as they are running at a loss and are in need of a substantial amount of money to back their stadium construction project. But, amidst this tough time, the Liverpool-based outfit has made some calculated signings in the 2024 summer transfer window to reinforce some areas. Among all arrivals, the most notable one is their new defender Jack O’Brien, who arrived from Lyon on a Ā£15.2 million contract. He has not played many games for the Toffees, but he has shown glimpses of his high potential.

Worst Signings for Everton in 2024-25

Everton brought in new players in the summer transfer window in 2024, and it has been five months since then. It is too early to predict the worst signings for Everton this season. However, Tim Iroegbunam is yet to find his rhythm under Sean Dyche. The English midfielder has made six Premier League appearances this season with no performance to justify potential so far.

Everton Transfer Spend Till Now

Everton is one of the biggest spenders in the English Premier League as the club broke the bank last decade for a string of signings in the transfer market. Sitting at an estimated value of Ā£810 million as of 2024, the Merseyside club is now facing financial issues on all fronts. Under Farhad Moshiri, they have had an expenditure worth Ā£680 million in transfers. In players’ sales, the Toffees have earned around Ā£530 million since 2016.

OFFICIAL: Armando Broja seals deadline day move to Everton

The 22-year-old striker has completed his season-long loan move to Everton for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign. Armando Broja was expected to complete a deadline-day move to Ipswich but Everton somehow secured a move for the Albanian international who is expected to be out until mid-October with a foot injury.

Broja will join Everton on a season-long loan and the club has the option to make the move permanent next summer for around Ā£30m. Broja’s current deal with Chelsea expires in the summer of 2028.

OFFICIAL: Orel Mangala completes loan move to Everton

Premier League giants Everton have completed the transfer of Lyon midfielder Orel Mangala on a season-long loan after completing his medical on Friday evening. The 26-year-old primarily plays as a central midfielder but can also deputise in the holding position.

The Belgium international joined the French club from Nottingham Forest earlier this summer and remains contracted with Lyon until the summer of 2028.

ā€œI feel really happy to be here and I canā€™t wait to get started,ā€ Mangala told Everton club media.

ā€œEverton is a big club. When Iā€™ve played against Everton in the past, Iā€™ve always felt there is a big fanbase here with a lot of passion for their club so it was an easy decision for me to come here.ā€œ

Breaking: Everton forward ‘on his way’ to Ligue 1’s Marseille

According to ‘Fabrizio Romano‘ on ‘X’ (formerly ‘Twitter’), Premier League club Everton’s forward Neal Maupay is set to join the Ligue 1 side Marseille FC.

Maupay will be moving to Marseille in a loan deal that contains an obligation to buy. The French club will reportedly pay the Toffees an initial loan amount of ā‚¬500k for the striker’s services throughout the 2024-25 season. After that, the obligation to buy clause will kick in which as per Romano is staged at ā‚¬5.5 million.

However, the deal will include potential add-ons circling around ā‚¬3 million as well. Further to conclude the financial agreement of the transfer, Everton will hold a 20 percent sell-on clause in any future transfer deal for Neal Maupay by Marseille.

‘Fabrizio Romano’ has laid out that, the French player is ‘on his way’ to complete his medical at the Ligue 1 club.

Everton close in on a transfer for Lyon midfielder

As per ‘Fabrizio Romano‘, Premier League club Everton is closing in on a transfer deal for Ligue 1 side Lyon’s defensive midfielder Oriel Mangala. Romano has laid out that the Belgian player is likely to join the Toffees in a loan deal which could include a ‘buy option clause’.

Sean Dyche’s Everton obviously sold Amadou Onana earlier in the window to Aston Villa. Since then reports have touted that the club’s hierarchy has been on the lookout for someone with similar caliber in the midfield.

Oriel Mangala could give the Toffees’ midfield a bite which they have been lacking since the start of the new Premier League season. Whether Everton can get this one over the line before the window shuts, remains to be seen.

Everton interested in signing David Datro Fofana

The Merseyside club are reportedly exploring a move for Chelsea forward David Datro Fofana who has been expected to leave Stamford Bridge on a temporary spell before the deadline day. The Ivory Coast international has struggled to hit the ground running at Chelsea and the club will be willing to accept a dry loan for the 21-year-old striker.

He had loan spells with both Union Berlin and Burnley last season and now Everton manager Sean Dyche has identified Fofana as a temporary replacement for Neal Maupay. But Everton’s financial situation makes it difficult for them to make any move in the transfer market.

Ā The Toffees are yet to make any offer for the 21-year-old attacking prospect.

Chelsea eyeing two alternative options to Victor Osimhen

The Blues were heavily linked with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer, but a move could be derailed due to the forward’s staggering wage demands. According to reports, Osimhen is demanding a salary of Ā£500,000-a-week, which would make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League.

Chelsea have been closely monitoring the Napoli forward throughout the summer, but are yet to reach an agreement with the Nigerian international. The Blues are also reluctant to pay his mammoth Ā£110million release clause.

The club is currently looking at other alternatives, with Evertonā€™s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Juventus outcast Federico Chiesa, as two potential options for the West London giants.

Everton eyeing a late move for Man Utd midfielder Scott McTominay

Everton have turned their attention to Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, who has been heavily linked with a move to Napoli this summer. The Serie A outfit have reportedly offered Ā£25 million, but United are seeking at least Ā£30 million for the Scottish international.

He has been one of the consistent performers for United last season, but his departure would generate pure profit for the club as they have to adhere to FFP rules and balance their books.

According to Football Insider, Everton are eyeing a late swoop for McTominay but might not be able to match United’s asking price.

Liverpool ready to launch a bid for Jarrad Branthwaite

The Reds are reportedly plotting a big transfer bid for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who is reportedly keen to make a move to Anfield this summer. The 21-year-old English defender has also been on the radar of Manchester United since the start of this summer window.

Branthwaite’s contract with Everton expires in the summer of 2027 and the club are demanding in excess of Ā£70million for the defender’s services. But few reports suggest that Toffees have no intention to sell Branthwaite to one of their arch-rivals.

But, Liverpool are confident that a deal could be done for the Everton man in the final week of the summer transfer window.

BREAKING: Kieran Trippier has decided to leave Newcastle United with Everton interested

Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier reportedly wants to leave the Magpies before the end of this summer transfer window. The England international who was an unused substitute in the season-opener against Southampton has one year remaining on his contract.

The veteran defender won the captain’s armband for most of his time with the Magpies, but Bruno Guimaraes has been elected as the new club captain this season. At the age of 33, Trippier wishes to explore other opportunities where he would be guaranteed first-team football.

He would be open to leaving St.James’ Park if the right opportunity comes along in the final few days of the summer window. Everton are reportedly amongst the suitors for the England veteran.
