Five midfielders to have in your FPL gameweek 3 squad

Midfielders are the most important players in FPL who can contribute points in various ways. They can score goals, assist, and earn bonus points for clean sheets and tackles. Choosing the right midfielders involves assessing their attacking potential, defensive capabilities, and fixture difficulty.

This weekend, gameweek 3 of the FPL (Fantasy Premier League) is here in full swing. Midfielders are the biggest points scorers in the game and last GW, Noni Madueke and Cole Palmer were the biggest point scorers from midfield. Let us see who has the potential to score big points this GW.

1. Cole Palmer

Cole Palmer was the player with the most goal contributions in the Premier League last season, and this season too, he has started with a bang. The opener against Manchester City was a largely silent affair for him but against Wolves in the previous game, he exploded with a goal and 3 assists. Crystal Palace have looked very shaky so far in the Premier League and Chelsea could be set for another high-scoring game. The £10.5m priced playmaker has registered 19 points in just two games.

2. Antoine Semenyo

Despite his low price point of £5.5m, Antoine Semenyo is only present in 2.4% of all FPL teams. For that price, the Bournemouth wide man represents extremely good value. He already has 13 points from two games including a goal and an assist. Everton have conceded 7 goals in 2 games and have been absolutely carved out on the wings by the likes of Son Heung Min and Koaru Mitoma. Semenyo will be hoping to continue the trend against the Toffees. Expect him to have a big season in general.

3. Emile Smith Rowe

As expected by absolutely everyone, Emile Smith Rowe has made a great start to life at Fulham. Throughout his time at Arsenal, it has been clear that there is a really good attacking midfielder in there. One of his strengths are making late runs into the box and that was in display as he scored his first goal for them last week. He has 13 points in the last two games and for £5.6m, he’s an absolute bargain. He has been chosen by 22.8% of the managers in the game. They play Ipswich Town this week so that is a good chance for ESR to get some points.

4. Phil Foden

Given his excellent 2023/24 season his price has inevitably risen, but even at £9.5m, Foden can be a great option. It remains to be seen if Foden can manage to replicate his form from last season, which he hasn’t been able to do so far. His ownership has fallen but 11.9% ownership is still a lot and they will certainly be hoping for the same. Foden didn’t do very well against Chelsea or Ipswich managing only a single point. This weekend, they play West Ham and will hope to bring his best.

5. Mo Salah

Mo Salah has remained one of the best FPL assets for 2024/25. He is priced at £12.5m and at the time of writing, he is in 37% of the teams. His record speaks for himself at this level. He already has 24 points in two gameweeks with 14 against Ipswich and 10 against Brentford. Under ordinary circumstances, a fixture against Manchester United wouldn’t be considered a great fixture for points but Salah’s record against them is so good that he can be considered a captaincy option even.
