Griezmann Collision with Advertising Hoardings
France attacking midfielder Antoine Griezmann endured a tough evening as France began their Euro 2024 campaign with a match against Austria. The Atletico Madrid star was left bloodied after a collision with the advertising hoardings in the second half.
Griezmann was battling with Austrian defender Max Wober near the byline when Wober (who was already on a booking) shoved him off the pitch. Griezmann landed head-first into the advertising boards resulting in a nasty gash on his head.
France’s medical staff quickly treated him on the pitch wrapping his head with a bandage. However, the bandage fell off during the match and Griezmann was unable to reattach it and threw it to the ground.
Griezmann’s Performance Unaffected
Even after the injury, Griezmann remained a significant threat on the field. He showcased his continuous efforts to push France forward in their Group D opener.
The 33-year-old Griezmann is one of the most experienced players in the tournament with 129 caps and 44 goals for France. He was part of the World Cup-winning squad in 2018 and has been a consistent performer for his national team.
Griezmann’s perseverance was evident as he continued to play at a high level despite the painful injury. His efforts were crucial in helping France secure their lead. Kylian Mbappe‘s cross, which was deflected into the net by Wober, gave France the decisive goal.
France will next face the Netherlands and Poland in their group-stage matches. Meanwhile, Austria will also compete against these teams as they aim to advance to the knockout rounds.
