Harry Maguire to miss FA Cup final against Manchester City

Mount, Lindelof and Martial all back

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed that Harry Maguire will miss their FA Cup final against Manchester City this Saturday. The defender hasn’t played for the Red Devils since 27 April 2024 and was already a doubt for the Wembley showpiece.

Maguire sustained a muscle injury in training last month and has been sidelined ever since, putting his Euro 2024 participation also in doubt. He was included in Gareth Southgate’s provisional 33-man squad but it remains to be seen if he attains fitness before the championship.

But on the bright side, Ten Hag will have Mason Mount, Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial available for selection for the FA Cup final. He said:

“Harry Maguire is unavailable but for the rest Mount, Lindelof and Martial are available”.

Mount missed United’s last three league games of the season whereas Martial hasn’t played for United since 9 December last year. Lindelof sustained a hamstring injury in April and hasn’t seen any minutes since then.

Manchester United’s season hinges on FA Cup

After overseeing their worst ever Premier League campaign, which saw Manchester United finish in eighth position with only 60 points from 38 games, their campaign now hinges on the FA Cup final. Winning it will go some towards salvaging their season, but it won’t be easy against Pep Guardiola’s in-form Manchester City, who won their fourth league title in a row. The Sky Blues beat United in last year’s FA Cup final too, courtesy of a double from Ilkay Gundogan on either side of a penalty from Bruno Fernandes.
