Leicester City can afford to breathe easy after the recent EFL Statement
The West Midlands-based club Leicester City FC got related to the Championship from the Premier League after the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season of the top-tier of English football. However, the club found itself steered in the headlines as it was alleged of potentially breaching the Premier League rules related to profit and sustainability.
Since the club has come under scrutiny of violating the league’s FFP norms, there has been an ever-impending debate on whether the Foxes will be handed out a points deduction in the Championship for being or if found guilty of rule breaches in a tier above it. Earlier during the end of March, Premier League reportedly took the matter to an independent Commission to closely monitor Leicester’s potential breaches and come out with a verdict on it.
The EFL earlier slanted towards a possible deduction of points for the Foxes in the Championship for alleged violations of FFP rules of the Premier League. However, the latest EFL statement from their reported letter to the FA signifies that Leicester are less likely to lose points in the Championship for their PSR breaches of the Premier League.
“EFL has confirmed to all the parties that, it does not have the power under the regulations as currently drafted”, the authority reportedly stated.
In addition to the latest happenings, Leicester City’s hierarchy has also embraced their support and cooperation in terms of the process that will determine the outcome of the charges upon them. Also, the FA’s LAP (League Arbitration Panel) has hinted that the league’s Disciplinary team’s investigation pointed towards the Foxes will not end before May 4.
Leicester City continue their march towards the Premier League promotion
Leicester City are currently marching towards a promotion back to the Premier League. The Foxes are one of the probable clubs to seal an automatic promotion spot in the 2023-2024 EFL Championship season. However, they are facing tough competition from Leeds United and Ipswich Town FC in their chase for those places.
The Midlands side currently stands at the top of the league’s table with 88 points to their name in 42 matches so far. However, the club has played an equal number of matches when compared to the number second and third-placed Ipswich Town and Leeds United, who also have 88 and 87 points to their tally respectively.
With about 4 matches to go till the season ends, it would be an interesting battle for those first two automatic Premier League promotion places. With the experience and depth that the Foxes have had at their disposal, one expects them to get the job done moving into the business end of their Championship campaign.
