Lionel Messi and Inter Miami continue their love story as the Argentine bags Player of the Month Award for April

Despite appearing only four times in April, Lionel Messi has a huge impact for his team Inter Miami FC on the pitch. The Argentinian has 10 goals contribution to his name with six goals and four assists which made him earn the MLS Player of the Month for April 2024.

Messi led Miami to win three games while the team has lost once the whole month. The 2022 World Cup winner was so pivotal for his team that in total Miami only scored 12 goals, meaning only two goals were made without Messi’s intervention.

This is the second time for a Miami player to win the Player of the Month award. Previously, another former Barcelona player Luis Suarez, was handed the award for February and March edition. Suarez was Miami’s first ever player to win such an award in the league. 

The record is not stopping there. Messi has surpassed Thierry Henry and Carlos Vela who have the most goal contributions during the first seven league appearances in one season. 

La Pulga in total has 16 goal contributions with nine goals and seven assists while Henry and Vela only had 13 goals in 2012 and 2019 respectively. Messi is also the first player in MLS history to collect multiple goal contributions in five consecutive matches.
