Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk delivers cryptic update about future at the club

Liverpool center-back Virgil Van Dijk has delivered a cryptic update when asked about his future at the club. The Dutchman has expressed uncertainty regarding whether he will stay on.

This is as per reports from Times Sport (via Fabrizio Romano), which add that the current situation at the club with so much change set to happen has unsettled many. Jurgen Klopp leaving seems to have affected Van Dijk as well, with his future unclear at this point.

When asked whether he would be a part of the new era at Liverpool, the Dutchman said:

“That’s a big question- Well, I don’t know.

“The club will havea big job on their hands, many things will change. I am very curious to see which direction that will go in.

“We’ll see our situation.”

Klopp announced earlier this week that he would be leaving his position as Liverpool manager at the end of the current season after nine years at the helm. Several rumours of player exits began doing rounds and Van Dijk is one of the first to speak for himself amid speculation.

Virgil Van Dijk joined the Reds in a club-record deal worth £75 million in January 2018. Since then, he has made 246 appearances for the club, scoring 21 goals and providing 14 assists. He has won every trophy that he has competed in with the club, which includes the Premier League, the Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Dutchman’s arrival at the club revolutionized their defence, coupled with the addition of custodian Alisson Becker from Roma to complete the puzzle. Jurgen Klopp built his team from the back, ensuring they have a solid foundation so they can work on their tactics in the middle and final third with greater freedom.

Now, after six years with the club, Van Dijk has doubts whether he sees a future at Liverpool without the manager who signed him.
