Manchester United preparing a fresh attempt to land Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton

The 2024 summer transfer window is far from over for Manchester United. Following the imminent arrivals of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, the Red Devils are also preparing another effort to secure the services of Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton. The interest in the Englishman further goes on to outline the ambition of Manchester United under the new owners.

According to the Football Insider, the Red Devils are expected to offer a sum of around €70 million to the Merseyside club which should be enough for the deal to materialise finally. Erik ten Hag has seen his club’s previous two attempts to sign Branthwaite rejected by Everton. The latest of those happened in July, with the Toffees declining a €58 million bid.

Jarrad Branthwaite to provide further stability to the United defence

A high level of defensive woes marked the 2023/24 season for Manchester United. The club finished the campaign with a negative goal difference of one, which turned out to be the worst ever in the glorious history of the Mancunian side. Erik ten Hag was determined to revamp his backline and has been backed accordingly by the management. The likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelof have been sidelined to make way for a completely fresh United defence.

Jarrad Branthwaite’s profile proves to be a suitable fit for the playstyle adopted by ten Hag. The Dutch manager struggled last campaign due to the lack of sync between his desired tactics and the centre-backs. The 22-year-old is composed and comfortable with the ball at his feet, allowing the United coach to continue with the habit of playing out from the back. Branthwaite is also renowned for his ability in the air, physicality in duels, as well as being a firm tackler.

The potential arrival of the Everton star will provide a new look to the backline at Old Trafford. The transfers of Lenny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui have already stirred up the excitement amongst the supporters. Everton’s hesitancy in letting its prodigy leave is not a surprise but Branthwaite’s desire to earn his dream move might very well turn out to be the deciding factor in one of the longest transfer sagas of the summer.
