Manchester United have struggled throughout this season with targets after target falling out. One of the factors was the lack of prolific goal scorers in the squad at the front. The best they could have is Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund who scored 10 and nine league goals respectively.
Responding to this issue, INEOS as the current in-charge holding over the operational aspects, set to sign a new striker for the next season. It is Ollie Watkins who has been a target for United as the Aston Villa forward has been one of the most scoring players in the league.
Ollie Watkins Transfer: The England international is way better than United’s goal scorers
After 37 games, Watkins has scored 19 goals which is around 34.5 percent of United’s goal tally. The negotiation is likely to happen as Aston Villa need to gain more profit to comply with the Premier League Profit and Sustainability rules.
Watkins could make about ÂŁ55 million in the market which is still reasonable for United with a proper financial support from the INEOS. There has not been any updates about the talks as Aston Villa are preparing the final league game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Before the rumour broke out, United manager Erik Ten Hag played down any gossip involving his team. The Dutchman said that news of a player linked to United has been a routine for him.
“As long as I’ve worked, every summer, every window, I think 200 players getting interest from Manchester United,” Ten Hag said via Independent “We did some research which was untrue and also every summer [it is said] we sell all of the players in our squad, which make headlines which are untrue.”
United’s recruitment department would have busy days at work during the summer. Not only do they have to finalise deals with players, Erik Ten Hag’s future with the club is also facing uncertainty. It is believed that only a Europa League spot could save his position by the end of the season.
