Rasmus Højlund has been widely criticised in his debut season with Manchester United. Some United fans are not impressed with the Norwegian youngster, taking a look at his goal tally this season so far.
However, statistically speaking, Højlund is not as bad as rumoured. The former FC Copenhagen player is the club’s joint-top scorer alongside Bruno Fernandes with 15 goals in all competitions.
Rasmus Højlund Stats: Leads by a whisker
Even compared to the current Premier League top scorer Erling Haaland, Højlund still has a better conversion rate than his fellow Scandinavian. The 21-year old is more effective in terms of shots he delivered, with most of it converted into goals.
ESPN reported that Højlund has 24% of conversion rate compared to Haaland who has 23%. It appears that United manager Erik Ten Hag should give Højlund more playing time next season if the Dutchman stays with the club.
Among the outfield players, only Diogo Dalot (48), Alejandro Garnacho (48), and Bruno Fernandes (46) appeared more than Højlund (41). One of the club’s special players Marcus Rashford could only score eight goals across the competition with the same amount of games as Højlund.
In the latest action against Newcastle United at Old Trafford, Højlund made an instant impact when coming on as a substitute in the second half. Two minutes after replacing United’s second goal scorer in that match, Amad Diallo, Højlund found the back of the net and extended his team’s lead.
