After a series of injury issues following his arrival at Arsenal, few players have overperformed expectations as Takehiro Tomiyasu has in North London. The full-back’s signing was met with a lot of chagrin from fans, critics, and neutrals alike but that quickly changed. However, the now 25-year-old’s problems with injuries have affected his regular game-time with him making just 81 appearances so far.
But that has changed this season as when fit, Tomiyasu has been Arteta’s first choice left-back although the Japanese international has missed 10 games through injury. However, the 25-year-old has featured consistently on the team sheet over the last seven Premier League games, missing just one. That was merely Tomiyasu being rested, something that Arteta confirmed after the Wolves game.

Yet, Arsenal fans have been given a scare after Sky Sports reported that the Gunners could potentially have an issue on their hands after Tomiyasu wasn’t spotted in training. The 25-year-old did play the entire 90 minutes against Bournemouth last weekend although reports have indicated that Arsenal have been managing the full-back.
The defender’s absence from the video has many fans worried although reports have indicated all that may be for naught. As per AFC Newsroom’s Connor Humm, Tomiyasu wasn’t absent from training but doing additional recovery work on his own in the gym inside London Colney. That has assuaged a few fears although there are conflicting reports that state the Japanese international was simply given time off.
Neither rumour has been confirmed as of yet but with Jurrien Timber spotted in training, Arsenal do have replacements. Not only that, Oleksandr Zinchenko is fit and ready to go although he has been used more off the bench by Arteta with Tomiyasu or Jakub Kwior preferred as the starting option over the last few months.
