Thiago Silva Announces Departure from Chelsea, Expresses Desire for Future Return

Former PSG and current Chelsea star defender Thiago Silva has officially confirmed that he will be leaving the Blues at the end of the current season.

Thiago Silva Comments on Departure from Chelsea Football Club

After signing a free move to Chelsea in August 2020, Silva has played in 151 games and won the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the Champions League.

Silva remarked on Monday in a heartfelt statement shared on the team’s social media platforms:

“Chelsea means a lot to meā€¦ I hope to leave the door open so that in the near future I can return albeit in another role here. But it is an indescribable love. I can only say thank you.”

Reflecting on his time at the club, Silva expressed appreciation for the warm reception he received from fans, despite his arrival coinciding with the pandemic-induced absence of supporters from stadiums.

He acknowledged the pivotal role played by former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard in facilitating his integration into the team.

“The way in which I came to the club, with the support of the club, I got to the club as a leader even though I didnā€™t feel like it having arrived as the new guy. Itā€™s always difficult to integrate but bit by bit I became part of the group and (Frank) Lampard played a big part in that. I am grateful to him for that.”

Silva’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter in his career, but he remains optimistic about the possibility of returning to Chelsea one day, emphasizing,

“Goodbyes are for those that leave and don’t come back. I intend on coming back one day.”

As Silva battles a groin injury, the outcome of upcoming scan results will determine his availability for Chelsea’s remaining Premier League fixtures before his departure.

What Future Holds For Thiago Silva?

Although Thiago Silva has stated he will be leaving Chelsea at the end of the current campaign, he has also stated he hopes to return to the team in the future in “another role.”

The 39-year-old’s contract was about to end this summer, and he has been linked to a move to Major League Soccer or AC Milan in Serie A, as well as a return to his home Brazil, where Fluminense is reportedly among the interested clubs.
