Tottenham vs Brighton: An Overview
Tottenham Hotspur have continued their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign in 2024 after beating Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1 in a thrilling contest on Saturday (Feb 10). Goals from Pape Matar Sarr and Brenan Johnson were game-changing moments as the hosts came from 0-1 down at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The win also sees Spurs return to the top four with 47 points from 24 matches and are firmly in the race to reach the Champions League next season.
Having seen off Brentford in their last home game, expectations were high for Spurs to dominate the match. However, it was not the case and Spurs were given a taste of their own medicine with Brightonâs attacking game. Spurs while controlling the ball at their edge of the 18-yard box area conceded a penalty which was put to bed by Pascal Gross in the 17th minute.

The hosts then had a couple of good chances with Richarlison through on goal but were unable to beat the goalkeeper. His rebound also failed to get converted by new signing Timo Werner as Spurs went into the halftime break trailing 1-0.
The second half did see a change in the body language of the hosts and like the Brentford game they were rewarded. In the 61st minute, Matar Sarr busted into the Brighton penalty area but had his shot deflected by Lewis Dunk onto the post. However, the rebound fell kindly for Sarr who did not make any mistake to convert from an acute angle to draw Spurs level.
The gameâs tempo was then slowed down by the Brighton players as they took control of the match in the final few minutes. They were almost rewarded in the second half added time when they had a corner. However, the Spurs kept their cool and would later profit from a lapse in concentration.
