The Brazilian forward joined FC Barcelona in the January transfer window in a deal worth €40 million and was expected to rapidly establish in the first-team setup amid Robert Lewandowski‘s poor form this season.
But the 19-year-old has struggled to garner any game time at his new club managing only 13 appearances for the Blaugrana giants.
Why has Vitor Roque’s agent threatened to leave FC Barcelona?
The 19-year-old striker has slipped out of manager Xavi’s plan in recent months with rumours suggesting a breakdown in their relationship. Roque spent most of the season fuming on the bench.
At the tender age of 19, Roque already has five international caps under his belt and became the youngest-ever debutant for the five-time world champions Brazil.
When Barcelona needed goals, Roque has often been overlooked and the Brazilian is reportedly unhappy with the coach who does not appear to trust the talented teenager.
He has not played a single minute of Champions League football and there are rumours that he will be offered on loan to interested clubs in the summer. A number of interested parties have contacted Roque and his representatives over a temporary switch, including Manchester United.
But his agent, Andre Cury has dismissed the idea of a loan and would seek a permanent departure for his client if there is no change.
“We chose Barcelona because he wanted to play for Barcelona”, Cury said an interview with RAC1. I’m certain Vitor is going to be a great player, but if Barca won’t play him, we have to look at finding a solution.
“A loan for a young boy can be harmful because he could go to a club that does not own him, and has no interest in taking care of him.
“This is very dangerous for the boy’s career. The best thing is to stay at Barca, but if he can’t stay we will work to get him to leave permanently.“
Where could Vitor Roque land this summer?
Manchester United are keen on Barcelona teenager Vitor Roque who has struggled to make an impact in his debut season for the Blaugrana. He has only been involved in 13 matches this campaign and has been restricted to just 310 minutes of first-team action.
There have been reports suggesting that Barcelona could send the Brazilian on loan this summer but the player has no intention of leaving after a disastrous campaign.
Man United are interested in a new striker as Anthony Martial will sanction an exit when the season concludes in the next few weeks. The English giants will have to convince the teenager if they were to add Roque to their starting roster next season.
