Why were the Cherries denied a late penalty during Bournemouth vs Man United?

    Bournemouth vs Man United ended in a 2-2 draw at the Vitality Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday, April 13.

    Despite the Cherries’ valiant efforts to go ahead twice in the game, another incident was the main focal point of the game. When the score was 2-2 deep into second-half stoppage time, Ryan Christie was denied a penalty.

    Bournemouth vs Man United: Penalty denied!

    The hosts made a good start to the game and grabbed an early lead to shift momentum onto their side. Dominic Solanke opened the scoring in the 16th minute following an assist from defender Marcos Senesi. However, United were handed a lifeline as Bruno Fernandes scored from point-blank range to level the game.

    Senesi provided his second assist of the night for Justin Kluivert to score and put Bournemouth 2-1 up after half-time. The second half saw more of the same but Bruno Fernandes scored in the 65th minute. As the game approached stoppage time with the scores still level, the Cherries had a great chance to break forward.

    However, Ryan Christie was stopped by Willy Kambwala with a body check as they both went down. A penalty was awarded at first by the on-field referee. However, that decision was later overruled by the VAR as the contact made by Kambwala was deemed to have been unnecessary.

    How things stand in the Premier League

    Another weekend of action-packed games saw Manchester City rise to the top spot after their 5-1 win over Luton Town in their last game. Arsenal fell down to second place following their 2-0 defeat at home against Aston Villa. Liverpool, too, fell to third after losing 1-0 to Crystal Palace at Anfield.

    Meanwhile, Aston Villa have moved into the top four and now have 63 points from 33 games, three clear of Spurs behind them. Lower down the table, things looks pretty much the same in the middle order with no significant movers as of now.

    The relegation zone, too, looks pretty much it did a few weeks ago. There have been no significant movements in the Premier League table since these moments.
