Thiago Silva was seen in tears after Chelsea lost to Manchester City in the quarter final of the FA Cup at Wembley yesterday. What came out on the news following this scene was about the Brazilian leaving The Blues at the end of the season. His contract with Chelsea will run out this June so seeing him not wearing the club’s outfit would be conceivable.
Thiago Silva comments on his future
After the match, Silva gave an update about his future but refused to give finer details. The former AC Milan captain said that he was not happy with the result Chelsea have earned in that match,
“You are going to know in the coming days,” Silva said after the game via Goal. “I don’t want to say anything now after a defeat. I’m sad about the result, but sooner or later the news will come out. I do have a decision made in my mind, but it’s not the moment to share it.”
Thiago Silva: My four years here were very good”
During his four-season stay with the Stamford Bridge-based club, Silva managed to win the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup the following year. He admitted that he was having a good time with the club, adding that his physical strength would be something crucial for his career ahead.
“It’s not an individual sport, but my four years here were very good. Not that I didn’t believe in myself, but with my age and the intensity of this league, it’s rare to see players in a high level at 39.
“I don’t like to talk about me, but you can see this. In the semi-final I was ready to play the extra-time! I can see I still have some years in me to keep enjoying football.”
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has already said something about Silva’s future. The Argentinian assured that this is not his area to talk about, leaving it up to the higher management’s decision.
“It’s a thing that, at the moment, we are not talking about the future of the player in the squad,” Pochettino said. “We are competing and that is a decision for sure the club needs to ask and we need to talk and agree the future of the squad at the end of the season. Of course, he is one of the players we need to discuss. At the moment, so far, there is nothing. At the moment, we didn’t discuss.”
