Unai Emery extends contract with Aston Villa until 2027

Unai Emery will stay in Birmingham with Aston Villa until 2017 after the club extended his contract. The Spaniard has brought out The Villans from a pothole after they were 16th on the table, fighting for the relegation battle in 2022 when Steven Gerrard was in charge. 

Villa finished seventh in the first season with Emery taking charge, securing a European football spot for the first time since 2010/11. This season so far, Olie Watkins and co are fourth on the Premier League table, four games away from competing in the Champions League.

Following the extension, Emery admitted that he would keep focus on bringing Villa to a better place. He urged his staff to keep working hard and having the same vision in order to get the desired results.

“We must maintain the hard-working spirit, clever decisions and co-ordination with the ownership that we have found during this time,” he said via BBC. “We will work to get better and better. And we will demand from each other. Ambition already is, and must always be, the motto of this project.”

Not only fighting for the Champions League spot, Villa are currently in the semi final of UEFA Conference League, scheduled to Olympiacos in May. The milestone made the club’s chairman Nassef Sawiris satisfied and fenced the manager to stay longer with them. 

“We are thrilled and are building a sporting operation around Unai to support him with a view of returning Aston Villa, a co-founder of the English Football League as we prepare to celebrate our 150th anniversary, to its historic levels of greatness.”

Before facing Olympiacos, Villa will host Chelsea at Villa Park this weekend to continue their mission of securing the a top four place.
