Vitaliy Mykolenko Injury might lead him out of Euro 2024
The Ukrainian and Everton left-back, Vitaliy Mykolenko Euro 2024 dreams might be at risk after suffering an ankle ligament injury, as per Ukrainian media reports.
On April 24th the footballer sustained an injury in the first half during the Merseyside derby against Liverpool. The defender managed to play out the first half before being replaced by Ashley Young. Everton’s doctors stated the 24-year-old may require surgery after an initial MRI scan, which would prevent him from joining his national side for the Euros.
However, after a detailed examination, the specialists question the need for surgical intervention. Mykolenko is on schedule for his April 30th examination, after which the medical team will decide whether the player needs surgery and the status of his Euro 2024 participation.
Yet, rushing the recovery process could risk further complications of long-term damage, which would threaten his participation in the tournament and his long-term career at Everton.
Given the current situation, the club’s agenda has been ticked so it would be prudent of them to rush things leading to long-term injuries.
So far in the current season, Vitaliy Mykolenko played 28 games while getting on the score sheet twice. Overall he has 85 appearances since 2022.
Moreover, the Ukrainian has been part of the side that won 2-0 against local rivals in their last derby at Goodison Park. ‘It’s not great early signs,’ said Sean Dyche after the game.
He missed the win 1-0 against Brentford last weekend which secured their place in next season’s Premier League and is unlikely to play for the club this season.
The Toffees are 11 points clear of the drop zone, despite being deducted eight points for breaching profit and sustainability rules.
It’s the third consecutive season where they dodged the relegation bullet as they play in the top-flight next season.
