Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea Player Ratings: Another win for the Reds in the ‘not-so-cold’ Anfield Stadium

The League fixtures are back after an action-packed International break. Slot’s team went head-to-head with the Blues in Anfield stadium today. While the Liverpool manager hoped for the Sky Blues to draw their fixture today, the late lead given by the trusty John Stones in the 95th minute gave the traveling team the much-needed win. It had put a last-minute pressure on Liverpool, who missed Alisson Becker prior to the fixture. Their new signing, Chiesa also hadn’t recovered from the injury.

The Blues rather started the game rather well, having more possession than the host. While the flanks were pretty active throughout the game, nothing could come out of it until the 1st half whistle. On the other hand, the backline of Chelsea was caught guilty multiple times but getting punished one time has offered a penalty to the Reds. Calm and composed, Mo Salah slotted it in the net despite of tricks played by Jackson while the Egyptian was taking the spot-kick.

The second half opened up with a Chelsea equalizer but Jones was quick to spoil the party for the travelling team. The match ended up with 2-1 victory for the Reds as even horrible refereeing could not help the ‘make Chelsea great again’ campaign.

Goalkeeper

Kelleher (7/10)

Just another day for the best number 2 goalkeeper. It was an easy match other than the Jackson breakthrough. Looked lively!

Defenders

Alexander-Arnold (6.5/10)

Less trademark passes from him but good defending today. Had a comfortable game until Neto came in, but still stood strong for the rest of the game.

Konate (7/10)

True enforcer of the defensive line for Liverpool. Turing into the best CB partner with Van Dijk. Did the necessary tackles. Good game from him but picked a yellow card.

Van Dijk(7.5/10)

A strong presence in the back line. No doubt why he is the captain of the Liverpool team. Had a comfortable game still had a lot to do with his defensive duties.

Robertson (7.5/10)

Pretty active throughout the game. Been a while since the Scotland captain has performed up to his mark.

Midfielders

Gravenberch (7.5/10)

Makes Liverpool wonder if they actually need a defensive mid. What a campaign so far from the Dutch International. Played elegantly and helped the team move forward.

Jones (7.5/10)

Scored the second goal. Almost won the team two penalties. Proving to be a good starter under Arne Slot.

Szoboszlai (7/10)

Pretty mixed game for the Hungarian. In terms of work rate, he was the best in the game today.

Forwards

Gakpo (7/10)

Had a decent game. He has set the bar too high for himself. Needs to live up to that mark.

Jota (6.5/10)

Had to go off because of an injury he picked up. Average performance from the Portuguese.

Salah (8/10)

Man of the match. The Old Testament of Liverpool. 1 goal and 1 assist. The Scousers are eager to have his contract renewed already.

Substitutions

Diaz (7/10)

Looked lively. Made some solid runs and had an attempt on the goal after glorious dribbling past the Chelsea defense.

Nunez (5/10)

Pretty active throughout the game. Picked an unnecessary Yellow card. Needs to have composure.

MacAlliser (5.5/10)

The Argentine too had picked up an unnecessary card after coming in so late in the game.

Gomez (6.5/10)

Came in the replacement of TAA. Stood firm in the right back and made sure of no danger.

Manager

Arne Slot (7/10)

Looked very animated and reasonably so. The League needs to focus on poor referring instead of issuing booking for every inconvenience.

Goalkeeper

Sanchez (5/10)

Sloppy goalkeeping. Gave the ball to opponents multiple times. Got away with a poor challenge on Jones which would have given the second penalty.

Defenders

Gusto (6.5/10)

The only one in the team who were involved in every attacks of the team.

Colwill (5/10)

Another player in the team who simply got away with sloppy tackles he made today. Below average performance from the defender.

Adarabioyo (5.5/10)

Got booked earlier for stopping Diogo Jota from breaking through. Had a decent game for the rest.

James (5.5/10)

Not at all close to what we have seen from him before injuries. Needs to step up his game and play the key role in the team.

Midfielders

Caicedo (6.5/10)

A pretty decent performance from the ex-Brighton midfielder. Caught making too much off a few nibbles from the Liverpool players.

Lavia (6/10)

Was one of the midfield pillars in the team today but nothing fancy from him.

Madueke (6.5/10)

As much better as he was in the first half for Chelsea today, he seemed out of touch in the second half. Got substituted later on.

Palmer (6/10)

Looked less involved than in other fixtures he started in. Nothing fancy from the Englishman as well. His attempts were blocked by the Liverpool players.

Sancho (6/10)

So much cut in and cut-outs with no valuable outcomes. The Englishman needs to concentrate on the end product.

Forwards

Jackson (7/10)

Scored the goal. Other than that, been a ghost throughout the game.

Substitutions

Manager

Neto (7/10)

Seemed a big threat ever since he came in.

Enzo Fernandez (6.5/10)

Would have preferred to start the game. Came in too late.

Renato Veiga (5/10)

Nothing impactful from Renato after he was subbed in.

Enzo Maresca (6/10)

Had a good campaign so far until this fixture. Looked visibly upset with the result.
