Celta Vigo vs Real Madrid Player Ratings as Mbappe and Vinicius make the difference

Celta Vigo went toe to toe with Real Madrid but it wasn’t enough to get them anything from the game as Los Blancos won 2-1 thanks to goals from Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr.

The Frenchman got his 6th of the league season taking advantage of a poor pass by Fran Beltran to give the away side the lead. Celta though were really bright and equalised through Willot Swedberg. Luka Modric came on in the second half to find Vinicius for what proved to be the winner. The home side had their chances, including a sitter in injury time but failed to capitalise.

Celta are now 10th in the table, while Real stick to 2nd spot. For Real though, it is a 42nd game unbeaten in La Liga and they can take the all time record if they beat Barcelona next week.

Goalkeeper

V. Guaita — 5/10. The experienced custodian had only a few saves to make in the game. Couldn’t do much to stop the goals from going in.

Defenders

J. Manquillo — 6/10. The centre back had a good game at the back. Kept things in check and distributed neatly.

C. Starfelt — 6/10. The Swede wasn’t called into action too many times. Was more or less comfortable throughout the game.

M. Alonso — 7/10. Had made a good start to life at Celta. Manned his side well and also got forward a number of times.

Midfielders

O. Mingueza – 8/10. Continued his absolutely ridiculous start to the season. Put it on a plate for the assist to the equaliser and defended well.

F. Beltran – 5/10. Made an error that lead to Real Madrid’s opener. Solid in possession otherwise throughout the game.

H. Sotelo — 6/10. Looked good in possession but didn’t really move the needle. Perhaps needs to be more risky in possession.

H. Alvarez — 7/10. Complemented Mingueza well on the other side. Looked threatening and had a good game in general.

Forwards

J. Bamba – 6/10. A largely silent outing. Played a good pass in the buildup to the goal but that was about it from him.

W. Swedberg — 8/10. Scored the equaliser in this game. Beginning to deliver on the promise he showed in the past.

B. Iglesias — 5/10. A disappointing game from the experienced striker. Completely dominated in duels and looked lost.

Substitutes

J. Rodriguez – 6/10. The young defender came on in the second half and did well.

A. Gonzalez – 7/10. Took a couple of shots in his limited minutes and looked dangerous. Also created a massive chance.

A. Douvikas – 4/10. Missed an absolute sitter in added time which could have levelled the game.

P. Duran – N.A.

D. Rodriguez – N.A.

Manager

C. Giraldez – 7/10. A deservedly high rating for him. His side were really really good and took the game to Real. They are a changed side under him.

Goalkeeper

T. Courtois – 7/10. Was forced into action a surprising number of times by Celta. Was up for the challenge on the most part though.

Defenders

F. Garcia – 6/10. Didn’t have a whole lot to do. Took the ball up the pitch well but didn’t create anything by himself.

A. Rudiger – 7/10. Very solid, especially in the air. Did not let Borja Iglesias breathe in peace.

E. Militao – 7/10. A good outing from the Brazilian as well. Shone especially brightly when it came to duels.

J. Vazquez – 7/10. Stepped in admirably for Dani Carvajal. Created multiple chances and looked right at home, despite the lack of minutes previously.

Midfielders

A. Tchouameni – 8/10. Top performance from the newly made France captain. Broke up play very well and was superb in progression as well.

E. Camavinga – 7/10. Got the assist for Mbappe’s opener. Other than that it was a somewhat shaky performance from the Frenchman.

F. Valverde – 7/10. Had a shot saved early on. Was tidy in general and kept the ball well. Has been one of Real’s standout players this season.

J. Bellingham – 6/10. Not one of his best performances. Still seems to be learning how to play with Mbappe. Below par by his standards tonight.

Vinicius Jr – 9/10. One of those nights why Vinicius seems to be the Ballon D’or favourite. The winner as well as a thoroughly brilliant performance.

Forwards

K. Mbappe – 8/10. Opened the scoring on the night. The performances might not be the best yet, but goals are coming.

Substitutes

L. Modric – 7/10. Came on and found Vinicius for what proved to be winner. Still the difference maker for Real when needed.

Rodrygo – 5/10. Came on but didn’t impact the game enough to write about.

F Mendy – 5/10. Came on but didn’t impact the game enough to write about.

D. Ceballos – N.A.

Manager

C. Ancelotti – 7/10. It’s a familiar story for Real Madrid. Performance wise not the best, but the result was still 3 points.
