Pundit Jamie Carragher had some strong words for Antony following after Crystal Palace vs Manchester United ended in an embarrassing 4-0 defeat for the Red Devils.
The Eagles scored two goals on either side of half-time and also did well to limit United to just two shots on target throughout the contest as they secured one of their best results in history.
Jamie Carragher’s post-match reaction towards Antony after Crystal Palace vs Manchester United
Manchester United were battered by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park and their performance received widespread criticism from pundits and fans alike. One moment in particular incited Carragher as Antony was seen conversing with teammates Andre Onana and Mason Mount with his hand covering his mouth following the final whistle.
Upon seeing that, the former Liverpool man expressed his anger, saying,
“Just get off the pitch! Whispering behind your hand, you’ve been absolutely awful. He’s probably talking about one of the players or somebody else, or the set-up, the manager, just get off the pitch.
“Shut up and get in (the tunnel). You’ve been beaten 4-0, whispering, talking – honestly, embarrassing.”
Antony in particular had a rather dull outing as he played for an hour. He managed just 14 accurate passes and one shot on target, and was also dispossessed eight times overall.
This resulted in Crystal Palace inflicting United’s 13th Premier League defeat of the season, their worst record in over three decades.
Where things stand for Erik ten Hag
Defeat at Selhurst Park sees Manchester United slip down to 8th place in the table. They now trail Chelsea (7th) for the first time this season on goal difference and still have three more games to play.
The first of those three will be against Arsenal at home next weekend as ten Hag will face another huge test against title-chasing Gunners. The Red Devils will then travel North to face Newcastle United, before ending their season against Brighton & Hove Albion. In addition, United will also face Manchester City in this season’s FA Cup Final, due to be played at the Wembley Stadium on May 25.
While the nature of the defeat against Palace will surely raise eyebrows, it remains to be seen whether the club makes a decision on ten Hag’s future immediately or after the end of the ongoing campaign.
