Kieran McKenna signed a new four-year contract at Ipswich Town

After an impressive run with Ipswich Town in the Championship which ultimately led to the Tractor Boys earning a Premier League promotion, Kieran McKenna was amongst the names linked with managerial jobs at Man United, Chelsea, and Brighton. It seemed pretty lucid at one point in time that the Red Devils’ hierarchy was looking to intensify their interest in him.

However, just when things started to add up, McKenna turned the tables as he ended up signing a new four-year contract at Ipswich Town. His new deal with the recently promoted Ipswich will dart till the year 2028. Sharing his thoughts on his decision to pen a new deal at Ipswich amidst being linked with some of the top Premier League clubs, Mckenna was very skeptical in his statements.

The 38-year-old reportedly stated – “I’m aware of it (being linked to United and Chelsea job). It’s part and parcel of success, there’s been interest from other clubs and it’s a short career as a manager”. He progressively asserted – “It’s right to consider things but I’m so, so happy with the decision I’ve made”. From the Irish manager’s statements, a sense of satisfaction with his decision to stay at Ipswich can be garnered.

The 2024-2025 Premier League season will be the first time that Ipswich Town will play in the top tier of English football after a gap of 22 years. But also it will be the first occasion when Kieran McKenna will get an opportunity to manage in the Premier League in his managerial career. Earlier he worked as an assistant manager to Jose Mourinho during the Portuguese’s time at United.

Simon Jordan heaped praise on Kieran McKenna for rejecting Man United and Chelsea

The English show ‘talkSPORT’ broadcaster Simon Jordan was full of praises for Kieran McKenna after the reported rumors suggested that the Ipswich Town manager has turned down the interest from clubs like Man United and Chelsea. Simon inflicted- “I think McKenna, I literally said well done”. “I’m very pleased”, he further addressed.

The ‘talkSPORT’ presenter further opined upon Kieran McKenna and expressed – “I think what you will see at 38 years of age is a manager that’s going to be a big success. He gets the reality of what he should be doing”. “That’s why his side has taken two and a half years to get out of League One and into the Premier League”, talking about the two back-to-back promotions that Ipswich has earned under their recent manager, Simon stated. It would be interesting to witness how McKenna marshalls his troops in the upcoming Premier League season.
