Arsenal are reportedly engaged in discussions with Everton to secure the services of midfielder Amadou Onana during the January transfer window. Mikel Arteta, seeking to bolster his midfield options, had initially targeted Aston Villa‘s Douglas Luiz, but the potential high cost due to Luiz’s extended contract has led Arsenal to explore alternatives.
Arsenal keen on Signing Amadou Onana
According to multiple sources in Belgium, including Sacha Tavolieri and Nieuwsblad Sport, Arsenal are currently in talks with Everton over a potential move for the 22-year-old Onana. Tavolieri suggests that Onana is enthusiastic about the prospect of joining Arsenal, raising the possibility of a swift agreement between the two clubs.
Onana, a Belgium international, is in his second season with Everton, having been acquired in a £33 million deal from Lille in August 2022. Manchester United had also pursued negotiations for Onana in the previous summer transfer window, with Everton initially holding out for a £50 million transfer fee.
The talks between Arsenal and Everton come at a time when the latter, facing a 10-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules, may need to consider potential player sales.
